Forbes: TELUS Launches Sovereign AI Factory in Canada

TELUS has inaugurated Canada's first fully sovereign AI Factory in Rimouski, Quebec, aligning with the global movement towards national AI infrastructure. Developed in collaboration with NVIDIA and HPE, this initiative empowers Canadian businesses to develop, train, and deploy AI models while ensuring data remains within the country. This facility directly addresses persistent data residency and compliance requirements for sectors such as healthcare and finance. TELUS CEO Darren Entwistle stated that this launch strengthens Canadian autonomy over sensitive data. By providing domestic infrastructure, TELUS mitigates the sovereignty challenges associated with utilizing international cloud providers. The company has also announced plans to establish a second AI center in Kamloops, British Columbia.
