Swedish subcontractor Nybergs Svets has secured its first export order outside the Nordic region, according to Dagens industri. The company will supply 1,500 tons of steel structures for a new hospital in Guyana, a significant step as it navigates a challenging domestic construction market in Sweden. Nybergs Svets, established in 1914 and employing nearly 50 people, traditionally focused on the Swedish market, providing steel constructions for diverse projects. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has identified Guyana as the world's fastest-growing economy in recent years. The contract entails providing steel beams for a 230-bed general hospital in New Amsterdam, equipped with three operating rooms, advanced X-ray solutions, laboratories, and a pharmacy. CEO Patrik Wallin views this export venture as "a natural next step in widening our business." Elof Hansson International AB, now part of Serneke International Group, facilitated the opportunity by seeking Swedish suppliers to develop an attractive financing package supported by the Swedish Export Credit Agency (EKN) and the Swedish Export Credit Corporation (SEK). Nybergs Svets accepted the order, which was enabled by an advance payment from the developer and a guarantee from EKN. Wallin stated that this project provides the company with "the experience required to take on more similar projects," indicating a strategic shift towards international expansion for the firm.
