Magnus Gisslén Criticizes FHM Over Strep Throat Antibiotic Use

Magnus Gisslén, former state epidemiologist of Sweden, has renewed his criticism of the Public Health Agency of Sweden (FHM). His current focus is on the agency's approach to prescribing antibiotics for strep throat. In a recent social media post, Gisslén also challenged the Strama network (Collaboration against antibiotic resistance), deeming their stance on the issue misguided. This latest critique comes shortly after his departure from the FHM, where he consistently asserted that the agency's leadership lacked medical expertise. Gisslén commenced his post by highlighting a significant increase in severe Group A streptococcal infections observed by the FHM during 2023 and 2024.
