Medtech Magazine reports that the Swedish Decon Group has acquired Batec Mobility, a Spanish company specializing in electric drive units for wheelchairs. This strategic acquisition is intended to strengthen Decon's position within the premium mobility market. The combined entity is expected to benefit from a broader product portfolio and a more robust distributor network.
Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Barcelona, Spain, Batec Mobility manufactures electric "handbikes" that attach to manual wheelchairs. The company serves approximately 20 international markets. Mattias Lundin, CEO of Decon Group, commented on the acquisition: "We are pleased to welcome Batec Mobility to Decon, which allows us to complement our product range with their extensive and high-quality selection of handbikes." Joan Vidal, CEO of Batec Mobility, expressed optimism regarding Decon's long-term ownership and its capacity to foster further product innovation.
Both companies are expected to maintain independent operations within their respective countries, with no changes anticipated to their current management structures. The transaction is scheduled for completion next month, though financial details have not been disclosed. Decon Group, established in 1989, concentrates on electric-powered wheelchair solutions and employs approximately 65 individuals, while Batec Mobility has a workforce of around 40 employees.
